#BLM - Black Indie Playlist & Two Scoops Cabaret

Some things that I’m doing in light of recent events:

I wondered how I as a black person could be productive and contribute to #BlackOutTuesday and uplift my fellow black artists. I wanted to do something relevant to my journey with my racial identity.

Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Dealing with mental illness, I find that listening to music helps me process my thoughts and articulate my emotions. I was teased when I was younger for being black and listening to indie & rock music, which I never understood considering that black people invented rock music, but that’s a rant for another time!

I still LOVE indie music, but I hate how white driven the genre is. So I’ve made a playlist of some of my favorite black indie artists, and I’ve even included some recommendations from some friends. I’ve posted a “sound scape” of sorts as a highlighted story on my Instagram. I’ve also composed a full playlist, so we all can continue to jam even after #BlackoutTuesday. Link for my Black Indie playlist posted below!

Thanks to my friend Jeremy Jacobs, I’ll also be a part of the Two Scoops Live cabaret stream this Friday to help raise money for the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), which works to “end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality.” I’ll be making a donation and I hope you all will consider doing so as well! To learn more about the Equal Justice Initiative, visit their website, https://eji.org.

Be sure to like the Two Scoops Live Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/twoscoopslive/) and follow the Two Scoops Live instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/twoscoopslive/) and tune in to the live cabaret this Friday, June 5th, at 5 PM PT / 7 PM CST / 8 PM ET!
